This week, we’ll apply the theme of ALIVENESS to our body image work.
When I teach people about weight stigma and diet culture, the theme of “aliveness” (and its corollary, death) circulates the conversation.
Our culture’s ideas of health, wellness, morality, and goodness all circulate around - not aliveness - but the avoidance of death and disease. We’re taught to eat, to move, to exist so that we don’t become sick or die. Living in perpetual sheer panicked avoidance of something that is inevitable for humans is, in my opinion, a fucking terrible plan.
