What an awesome take, that it was activism that brought down the house of spandexoratheons. I am curious if there are folx over here that lived through the news cycle when Fen-Phen came out. And saw its progression. Did it feel like this moment, too? Like all critical perspective go out the door with this outlandish Ozempic articles.

And now I hear that there's The House of Costco...selling Ozempic to its members....

The "House of Spandexoratheons" made me laugh.

Oh man, this is good stuff. Everytime I see that doggone "Obesity is a Health Issue" Ad from Eli Lilly, I just want to barf. Industry follows money and when revenue can be generated by making people feel like they are fat and sick, then why worry about medical ethics and shakey science?

I do think there is another minor house worth mentioning that rose up after Spandexoratheon, and that has recently aligned with the House of Pharmaceuticals for mutual benefit. It's called Kardashiania, an untalented but socially saavy clan who orchestrated new revenue streams by conflating social privilege with surgical alteration and photo retouching. Let the battle begin!!!!

Thank you for this novel and thoughtful discussion. I had never considered looking at these issues this way. I totally agree with you. It's very helpful to look behind the curtain and understand what is going on and why. I can only hope people like you will help change the minds of people who still believe in the old rules.

I agree that these women are a dying breed, clinging to a certain demographic of women who are still defining their entire being by size. And now, they can't do it under the auspices of "health" (same as the lab coats) The one nice thing about Big Pharma is they are absolutely decimating what's left of the old-school diet industry.

Such great points.

The marketing of diet culture to men by men (repackaged as wellness, longevity, performance, bio-hacking, etc.) has brought in so many new customers. And it's no wonder we're seeing a rise in body dissatisfaction and eating disorders among men and boys....
